I’m guessing the vast majority of America didn’t exercise today. The vast majority. Maybe you did workout, to which I applaud your discipline. Maybe you’re on a regular exercise plan and today just happened to be your rest day – fantastic! But I’m not talking about you guys. I’m talking about that majority.
In case you’re unaware, there is a huge obesity trend going on in the United States. It’s unnerving, scary, and the effects of the last several decades of the “fast food” era and oversized portions are NOT doing us any favors as we move forward in combating this problem.
2 out of 3 adults in America are overweight and 1 out of 3 adults is obese (cdc.gov). STAGGERING. 2 out of 5 children in America are overweight. 40% of our children are growing up with a condition that will be the underlying cause of so many more health issues and disease when they become adults. These stats are no joke, people.
There are so many factors that contribute to obesity, yet there are just as many ways to fight it and stay healthy, if not MORE. Regular exercise is just one way to keep your heart healthy and help maintain a normal weight. So yeah, on this national holiday where most people had the day off and didn’t have to work, the chances that they got some “werk” in, too and exercised is slim. Which saddens me.
I feel like my job is to combat this epidemic since I’ve been overweight myself. I have no shame in rallying my peeps, my troops, my friends and family, and anyone who cares to listen to join me in fighting this horrific trend that will likely kill so many of our own children down the road. I’m not the only one concerned with this issue as you can see here.
