When people meet me today, they assume that I’ve loved fitness my whole life and/or have always been fit. The truth is (and many of my friends and former soccer coaches can attest to this fact) that I used to HATE to workout. To run. To push myself. Period. I didn’t like pain. I still really don’t, but I’m able to push through a lot more now.
2012 was a year of big change for myself and my family. We were moved that summer from Richmond, VA (where I had been for 15 years) to Dallas, TX (where I grew up and still had family). From having a preschooler, to partying a lot with friends before I left, to packing our house, to finding a new house in Dallas, on top of working two jobs…it was STRESSFUL. When we arrived in Dallas we still didn’t have a house to move into (our deal fell through) and we had to live with my parents until we found and closed on a house of our own. That meant the 3 of us, our two cats, and a dog (my mom really doesn’t like dogs) moving in with my parents. Picture my anxiety as sky high.
I wasn’t exercising much that year. My mom never really cooked for us so we ate out a lot. Adjusting to a new school, new jobs, and finally a new home…I found myself 40 pounds overweight in October of 2012 at the heaviest I had ever been. I was MIS-ER-AB-LE. Depressed. Embarrassed at how I looked. I didn’t want to see anyone. If I could have hibernated for the winter I would have.
See, I never had to think about what I ate before because I always had a high metabolism growing up and I was training 3-4 times a week for soccer. In college, we trained harder and more often, but I still didn’t worry about what I ate. I just ate whatever I wanted. That behavior continued well after my daughter was born and into my adult life. I didn’t want to “diet.” I loved food too much. But when I went shopping for a dress for an event and the only size that would fit me was a 14, that’s when it hit me. I’d either have to keep buying new clothes that were 4 sizes above my norm, OR I would have to start working out again and learning better eating habits.
I chose the latter. Fast forward 3 and a half years and I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m eating foods I never liked before (sweet potatoes, zucchini, broccoli, peppers). I’m crushing workouts I never thought I would (Insanity Max: 30, Hammer & Chisel, 21 Day Fix Extreme). I’ve run 2 marathons, 10 half marathons, and numerous other races. But it’s less about what I look like on the outside. It’s about how I FEEL ON THE INSIDE.
Becoming a Team Beachbody Coach quite literally turned my life around. It gave me a sense of purpose. It gave me an instant community and culture that engaged in healthy habits and positive action. Because of that environment, my mindset was able to grow and change. I’m much stronger mentally, I’m more positive in my thinking, and I’m better able to self-regulate my anxiety. So as my journey began I brought friends along with me for the ride. They joined my challenge groups. They joined my team of coaches. They lost weight, got healthier, gained confidence and even started earning extra money by helping their own friends.
This month I am looking to mentor 3-5 new women who are FIRED UP ABOUT FITNESS. You didn’t always have to be. Maybe you have a similar story to mine and only recently began living a healthier lifestyle. But if you have always been into fitness, you should check out this opportunity, too. Are you:
- sitting at work just waiting to get off so you can go to the gym?
- wishing you had more money to buy fitness gear, clothes, or gadgets?
- always answering your friends’ questions about what to eat or do for a workout?
- a stay-at-home mom who would love to contribute to her family’s income?
I want nothing more than to share more about how becoming a fitness coach has changed me mentally, physically, and financially. If you’re interested in learning more and joining my team, click HERE to fill out a brief questionnaire so I can get to know you better – and I’ll contact you within 24 hours to set up a call with me.
