Cleansing

On Tuesdays, I want to challenge my readers to try something new. Considering the fact I’m cleansing for 3 days, it made me want to discuss this ritual we feel the need to do after certain occasions like holidays when we eat too much. Or sometimes before a vacation to make sure we’re “bikini ready.”

I’ve done two cleanses in my life and one didn’t go so well. You know the one you always hear about where you only drink lemon water and cayenne pepper for days? I tried that one in my 20’s and miserably failed. MISERABLY. I actually don’t think I made it an entire day. I don’t remember exactly, but I am pretty sure I ordered pizza and drank wine that night. If you’re laughing, it’s because you know you’ve been there.

Nobody likes to starve themselves. Nobody likes to feel hungry. Nobody thinks cleansing is FUN (and if you do, I don’t believe you for a second). There is some research that supports cleansing as a way to rid your body of toxins. Which is why I want to do it. I want to scrub the insides of my colon with broccoli. Said no one ever.

The only reason why we cleanse is because we want to lose weight. There. I said it. Other benefits include jumpstarting your metabolism, increasing energy, improved digestion and improved sleep patterns. All great things, but none are as good as feeling better in your jeans (or being able to button them).

With all that said, the only cleanse I have been able to successfully do is the Beachbody 3-Day Refresh. Why do I love this so much? Because it’s the most non-cleanse cleanse that I have found. Let me explain.

*It’s only 3 freakin’ days

It’s not 7 days. It’s not 21. It’s THREE. I can do anything for 3 days.

*You get to eat actual, real food

That whole lemon water and cayenne pepper thing? No thanks. I want to be able to chew and eat real food on my cleanse, please.

*You’re allowed to do light to moderate exercise

Since I’m a fitness freak, cleanses are harder because I do more intense workouts. But having the ability to do yoga, pilates, or light jogging while on the Refresh isn’t just awesome, it’s practically unheard of on other cleanses.

Now I’m not saying the Refresh is easy. No cleanse is easy. At least for me. But the benefits are great and it’s safe enough to do every month (I do it about 4 times a year). It’s definitely a cleanse I’m on board with.

So I’m curious, have you tried to cleanse before? What was your experience like? I’d love to hear about your experiences!
