Meg’s Miles has become such a huge part of my life that I wish didn’t exist for one reason: Meg Cross Menzies would still be running the earth. However, when she was taken from us on January 13, 2014, little did I know my life would change forever. As would thousands of other people’s lives.
Her story resonates with so many people for a lot of reasons. A Christian mother of three and avid runner, Meg was known for her smile, her grace, and huge heart. She lived her life with one purpose: to serve God. Although I didn’t know her very well, I was privileged to befriend her through our mutual friend, Kelley Schmidt. Our daughters were only 5 months apart. We chatted at playdates. I was drawn to her smile and her gentle demeanor. I wish I had gotten to know her better.
It’s almost been 2 years since she was taken from us. In these months since her death, I have grown an incredible network of friends who are like family to me. We have connected for one reason–to remember Meg and to share her story, her love of God and running, and her loving heart.
I feel moved to write more about our Meg’s Miles family. To share what amazing things are being done in Meg’s honor. To show you that there is good in the world and that each one of us has the power to “be the good,” to live our lives in a Christian manner, and share God’s love.
I am the first to say that while I believe in God, I don’t consider myself a religious person. I find strength through Him in many ways, however I do not go to church on a regular basis. I do not study the Bible. Rather, I choose to believe that He is always listening when I need Him. He is always nudging me in certain directions and when I feel that nudge, I listen.
And so I hope you find something about Meg’s story that resonates with you. It might not come from me, but one of the stories I share from other people who knew Meg. I invite you to read more about her life here on earth and the work she is doing as an angel in Heaven. Most importantly, I encourage you to always “be the good.”
